Pakistan: Imran Khan Granted Permission to Speak with Sons from Jail

Asma - | World

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently in detention at Attock Jail, has been granted permission by a special court, established under the Official Secrets Act, to make a telephonic call to his sons, as reported by Dawn. Prior to this ruling, Imran Khan had filed a plea before a judge, seeking authorization to contact his sons via telephone.

Imran Khan is allowed to have a telephonic Conversation with Sons

The former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has been given permission to speak on the phone with his sons while being incarcerated at Attock Jail by a special court created to handle matters involving the Official Secrets Act. Imran Khan, who is also the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), presented a petition to Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain asking for permission to call his sons.

The applicant's desire to communicate with his actual sons, Suleman Khan and Qasim Khan, via phone or WhatsApp was underlined in the argument made by Imran's attorney, Barrister Umer Khan Niazi. Imran's legal right to conduct such telephone conversations in conformity with the law was argued by the attorney. According to the plea, which Dawn cited, Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi and his sons Suleman and Qasim were to speak on the phone. This was to be arranged by the superintendent of District Jail Attock.

Judge Zulqarnain approved the plea and directed the prison administration to facilitate the telephonic conversation, ensuring compliance with the law. The order explicitly stated, "Instant application is allowed. Superintendent District Jail Attock is directed to make necessary arrangements for phone calls between the accused and his sons in accordance with jail rules and manual."

Simultaneously, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) sought responses from the law ministry and other relevant parties regarding Imran's plea against the decision to relocate the cipher case hearing from Islamabad to Attock Jail. This development followed Imran's petition on the matter, filed shortly after his cipher case hearing occurred at the office of the deputy superintendent of Attock district jail, where he is incarcerated following his conviction in the Toshakhana graft case.

Additionally, according to sources cited by Geo News, Imran Khan's judicial remand in the cipher case has been prolonged by a special court created under the Official Secrets Act until September 13.
