As the pleasant weather draws in, restaurant and cafe owners in Abu Dhabi have begun to prepare outdoor seating areas. However, it's crucial to remember that specific regulations must be adhered to. Violating these rules can result in fines of up to Dh5,000, as stated by the Abu Dhabi City Municipality.
Abu Dhabi City Municipality Enforces Rules for Outdoor Seating
Setting up temporary outdoor seating near commercial establishments, such as shops, eateries, cafes, and service venues, requires permits. To keep the public informed about these regulations, the municipality has launched a campaign highlighting the need for compliance.
Business owners wishing to establish outdoor seating areas can initiate the process through the TAMM platform, provided they have consent from the building owner and a valid lease agreement of at least six months. The proposed outdoor seating dimensions will be evaluated by the City Municipality Center, which will also determine the applicable fees. The permit fee is calculated based on the required space and includes a refundable deposit of Dh10,000. These permits are valid for one year and can be renewed.
However, it's essential to note that the municipality retains the right to revoke a permit if the terms are violated or if urban development necessitates such an action. In the event of revocation, there is no liability for potential losses to the permit holder. A detailed layout plan, specifying the arrangement of tables, chairs, and shading devices, must be submitted in compliance with established guidelines.
Consequences of non-compliance
The establishment of an unauthorized outdoor seating area incurs a fine of Dh5,000. Additionally, the authority specifies a Dh3,000 fine for violating permit conditions.
Enhancing public awareness
To ensure greater public awareness and understanding of these rules governing temporary outdoor seating areas, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality has partnered with the City Municipality Center to launch a campaign. This initiative aims to provide clarity on the regulations and requirements while fostering compliance among business owners.
As the outdoor dining season gets underway, adherence to these guidelines and permits is essential to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for patrons and restaurant owners.
